Bulldog On Display
On Saturday 2 Jun 2001, the Bulldog static display aircraft made an appearance at the Lilias Day fete in Kilbarchan. 1701 (Johnstone) Squadron used the aircraft as part of a recruitment exercise at the event, aimed at encouraging new members to join the squadron. A group of 4 cadets initially helped in the loading, transporting and assembly of the aircraft. Interest in the aircraft was shown even before the aircraft had been fully unloaded, with a number of people approaching the cadets and staff asking about it. The success of the event was far greater than expectations. On the Monday night following the fete the squadron had 9 new cadets visit the squadron, all of whom are now progressing well through their initial basic training.
