VC Memorial Service
On Tuesday 26th June cadets from 396 (Paisley) and 2175 (Rolls-Royce) joined ex-servicemen and women to commemorate the five winners of the Victoria Cross from Paisley.
The Memorial Service was held in Paisley Abbey, conducted by Revrend A. Birss of Paisley Abbey and the Very Reverand Monsignor G. Brennan of Paisley Cathedral. This was followed by a the unveiling of a Memorial in Hawkhead Cemetry. The service marks the 150th anniversary of the first ever presentation of a Victoria Cross by Queen Victoria in Hyde Park, London.
The five servicemen honoured at the service are believed to the be most born in a single town to receive the Victoria Cross anywhere in the world. They were:
