Altcar Camp Training Weekend

The camp, organised by Flt Lt D MacVean of 2175 (Rolls-Royce) squadron, involced staff and cadets from 2175 (Rolls-Royce), 1701 (Johnstone) and, 449 (Lanark) and 32F (1st Glasgow) squadrons.

Altcar Camp was very busy over this weekend with several units using it for a variety of purposes. West Mercian Wing ATC had an annual camp here and also they were running an NCO course. Mersyside ACF were on camp for adventure training and also some regular Army and TA personnel were using the facilities. In total there were 600 people on camp! Using a combined mess was a little chaotic but added to the experience of living and working on a Training Camp.

The programme for the camp, organised by 2175 (Rolls-Royce) squadron, was split into:

New Recruits Course - Designed to introduce new recruits to the basics of camouflage & concealment, undertake weapons training on the No8 rifle and participate in temawork and confidence building exercises.

Junior NCO Course - As the title suggests, a course for JNCO's. Aiming to give new and potential cadet NCO's the training & skills necessary to be successfull in their role as a junior manager on their squadron.

Main Programme - A mix of Fieldraft (including camouflage & concealment and tactical movement), leadership & teamwork exercises and survivial skills.

All in all the weekend was fantastic, the weather stayed dry (most of the time) and all 48 cadets learned something new.
